We stayed the weekend at a motel in Taupo, in the center of the North Island. Lake Taupo is an old volcanic crater that has filled up with water and is quite breathtaking. This is a big tourist spot with plenty to do and see. The mountains you can see in the background are active volcanoes Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe.
I don't really know why Pete is standing like that, but I think it was to make himself look taller!
