The Nose Knows

This is Caleb's description of what happened last night:

"K so check this, this black guy was like "Homie I'm gonna shoot you up", and then..... Okay no. I had my mom drop me off at the park to throw football with my friend, and there was barely any light, but by the time my mom was coming to get me it was pitch black. And I stole my friend's phone just messing with him, and he started running after me, and I took off. And if you guys know me, and my ridiculous speed, the last I remember sprinting off looking back at him laughing, and ended up on the ground, hearing this huge ringing sound. I had run into a goalpost, and my friend was far away, and heard the ringing noise of when I hit the post. And I got up and felt like my head was about to explode, and couldn't feel my nose. And if any of you laugh, while reading this, shame, shame on you for laughing at the special kid. I hope you feel good about yourself!"

2 Days Later

What makes this story even more "special" is that this is a HUGE park, about the size of 4 football fields. And Caleb managed to find something to run into!

I wonder if this will have an impact on his super sniffing super power! For those of you who know him, you know what I'm talking about!

p.s. Tell him he needs a haircut!

Earth Hour

New Zealand will be the first country in the world to switch off on Saturday as part of the global event known as Earth Hour. From 8:30pm (which is in 50 minutes as I post this) New Zealand will lead the way as, time zone by time zone, the world "powers down" in support of the climate change event to raise awareness of global warming. WWF says support for Earth Hour has "exploded" both in New Zealand and globally.

Thousands of homes and businesses throughout the country are joining in the initiative, by turning off lights and non-essential appliances between 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Seven times more municipalities globally have signed on since last year's Earth Hour, which drew participation from 400 cities after Sydney, Australia held a solo event in 2007. 

Across the rest of the world, lights will be dimmed on great monuments such as Egypt's Pyramids, the Acropolis in Athens, the Eiffel Tower in paris, and Chicago's Sears Tower. In all, 84 countries are taking part.

It's a Small World After All

Today at church, the world seemed that much smaller. When Jared went on his mission I joined a "Missionary Mom" email list. My list is for parents of missionaries in the South Pacific region, which is those who serve in New Zealand and Australia. Anyway, one of the Mums emailed during the week to say that her son was being transferred into our branch. It was fun to meet this lovely missionary and also to be able to email his Mum in England and tell her that he's looking well etc.

We also had a family visiting our branch from Melbourne Australia. It turned out to be the Bishop of the ward that Jared has been serving in for the past couple of months. It was so great to chat with them for a while and hear about Jared and how they all thought very highly of him as a missionary. I laughed when this Bishop said he was a little confused at first when Jared introduced himself as being from New Zealand, but spoke with a strong American accent! He said Jared and his companion worked hard and were very creative in getting members involved in missionary work, one activity involved making Root Beer! 

I had a smile on my face for the rest of the day after all that!  = )

Athletic Day

Caleb's school divides all their students up into "Houses,"  yes,  just like at "Hogwarts" in the Harry Potter books! Caleb is in in Tiger House and their colour is orange. Recently the school had their athletic day and they all competed against each other, representing their "House." Here is our boy all decked out in his orange bits and bobs and war paint! I had great difficulty finding an orange T-shirt for him, but I did find one. In the end he decided to wear it on his head instead! Go figure!

Caleb's House won, and he also placed in the 100 meters and so now he is representing the school in a city Track Meet this Wednesday.
